On the Road with Rubino – Volume I

Published On May 31, 2018 | By Sara Rubino | Road Crew

I have emerged from my food coma from Poutine Feast. I didn’t think there was such a thing as “too much” poutine – until this past weekend when I ordered one topped with pulled pork and bacon. My God it was good. I could barely move the rest of the day and I couldn’t have been happier about it. If you missed Poutine Feast in Victoria Park this past weekend make sure you check it out next year! The best part of gorging myself on poutine was that I did so right beside athletes of all ages playing in the Got Game road hockey tournament. They ran and sweat and got their cardio in for the day.. and I had gravy dripping off my face. To each their own!

Once I wiped the gravy from my face I met NHL legend Darryl Sittler! He was just chillin’ and signing autographs for fans with all donations going to the Children’s Hospital. What a gem!

I worked up quite a thirst at both events – and WOW was it hot – so we swung by the Beer Store. No, not JUST to buy beer – it was the annual Bottle Drive for Leukemia and Lymphoma. This initiative raises millions for the cause and we had a great time with the volunteers. If you missed out you can still donate – on your next trip in just let the cashiers know you’d like to donate your empties.

Looking for something to do this weekend? Let me tell you what’s up..

Friday – come visit us at Covent Garden Market from 10am-1pm for National Donut Day! We’re re-living the Donut Lassie days and handing out free donuts like they did for the troops during the first world war.

Saturday – we’re at the Fleetwood Country Cruize In – the biggest car show in Canada! It’s on at Plunkett Estates on Elviage drive both Saturday and Sunday from 7am – 5pm. Admission is just $10 and you can see thousands of classic vehicles!

Once you finish checking out these beauty old rides you can head on out to Melbourne Mud Madness and see some massive monster trucks ripping through the mud. They actually let me drive one of these babies and it was insane. Word of advice: roll up the windows before entering the giant mud puddles.

Stay tuned for what kind of trouble we get in this weekend!
