Concert Review #4: Chicago & Earth Wind And Fire
Hey folks, it’s Steve, the Classic Rock 98.1 intern. The fourth concert of my internship was also the first international rock n roll road trip. This time we headed off to Clarkston MI, to the legendary Pine Knob to see two, Rock N Roll Hall of famers: Chicago and Earth Wind and Fire.
International border crossings are always a challenge but we zipped through and made our way towards the venue. With extra time taboot- or at least that’s what we thought. About 7 klicks outside of Pine Knob we landed in thick traffic, which is where we stayed for the next hour and 45 minutes.
Sadly, as we made our way through the parking lot we heard the final moments of Chicago’s opening performace. Saturday in the Park would have been an awesome treat to hear live but all we got was a Wednesday in the Parking Lot.
However, once in the venue we scoped out a place in the law and waited for Earth Wind and Fire. These legends came out strong with a rousing “Shining Star” and got everyone up on their feet dancing. This enormous band brought the funk, brought the soul and brough the place down. By the time they closed with the “Boogie Wonderland” and “September”, 1 -2 it was clear this band is here for a knockout of a great time.
Luckily for us Chicago joined Earth Wind and Fire for a couple of tunes during an incredible encore. The Chicago classic “25 or 6 to 4” was given a full treatment with over 20 musicians sharing the stage and giving it their all. Talk about leaving the crowd on a high note.
The ride back to Canada was smooth sailing all the way.
Thanks again to Classic Rock 98.1 for another amazing night of music!
